Fresh Air Systems
Certain workplace environments require the use of fresh air systems to ensure employee safety. For instance, supplied air systems are often employed in situations that involve prolonged exposure to dusts, mists, fumes, or gases. Pesticide-spraying, painting, abestos management, chemical or biohazard cleanup, and any other kind of work activity that exposes employees to the aforementioned airborne substances require the use of supplied air systems. Without fresh air flow, the presence of these airborne substances may cause employees to experience illnesses, injuries, and even fatalities.
To ensure a supplied air system functions properly, it is important to carefully inspect it before each use. The facepieces should be checked for cracks, tears, holes or distortion, the headstraps or belts should be inspected for breaks, tears or broken buckles, and the valves and hoses should be free of dirt or residue and show no evidence of tearing or cracking. The air pump itself should be tested on a regular basis. Careful inspection and proper maintenance of a supplied air system is essential to keeping the quality of air up to required standards.
Supplied air systems provide Grade D air to employees. Grade D is an air standard created by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). This quality of air is deemed suitable for breathing according to certain established rules. For instance, the oxygen content in the air must contain the amount of oxygen normally present in atmospheric air. The air must also contain a maximum of five milligrams of hydrocarbon, 10 parts-per-million of carbon monoxide, and 1,000 parts-per-million of carbon dioxide. Grade D air must be provided to employees in order to comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
All of the supplied air systems available here, at All Safety Products, Inc. meet the standards set by OSHA. Some options of supplied air systems that we carry include the Opti-Fit Mask-Mounted PAPR and the Belt-Mounted PAPR. The mask-mounted design is lightweight and does not inhibit worker efficiency. The belt-mounted design is a flexible alternative to facepieces. Other great options of fresh air systems include the Panther Hip-Pac Pressure Demand SAR, the CC20 Series Supplied Air Respirator, the PA20 Complete PAPR and the 88VX Series Airline Respirator.
