Hand Wash Stations
Hand wash stations are valuable tools in preventing the spread of bacterial infections such as E. coli. During spring and summer months especially, people participate in many outdoor events that mix food with high risk activities such as rides, exposure to animals, and improper cooking or refrigeration techniques. Adequate and frequent hand washing is the best known method for reducing the risk of disease. At All Safety Products, Inc., we offer a variety of portable hand wash stations in order to increase the safety of outdoor events or workplaces.
Popular models include two-station and four-station hand wash sinks. They provide soap and paper towel dispensers as well as fresh water and used water tanks of varying capacities. Other popular features are hands-free foot pump operations, a heater to keep water temperature warm, built-in lifting handles, and compact size. Some stations have tie-down hooks to prevent theft and many provide easy access drain plugs for convenient operation and maintenance.
Hand sanitizers are not as effective as hand washing and should not be used as a replacement. The Center for Disease Control recommends the scrubbing of hands for at least 20 seconds after touching animals, uncooked food, foreign substances, or bathroom areas. E. coli infections cause about 75,000 illnesses each year and kill about 60 people in the same time period.
Adequate hand wash stations in high-risk areas will enhance the safety of workplaces and events. The stations should be located in highly visible areas and signs should be posted to inform people of their existence. Public education should also include signs that remind everyone to wash hands before eating, drinking, or preparing food.
