Construction Safety HarnessA construction safety harness is necessary for any job that involves vertical travel. Approximately 37 percent of serious injuries and deaths at construction sites are attributed to falls. Most workers prefer full-body harnesses with stretchable webbing that allows flexing and bending. At All Safety Products, Inc., we carry a complete line of safety harnesses as well as emergency hoists, ropes, cables, pulleys, and tripods.
Harnesses are attached to life lines, which should be constructed to minimize injury from "jerk back" during a fall. Lanyards are available in single leg or twin leg design and should be adjustable in length. They control deceleration distance. They should absorb shock and have self-locking snap hooks at each end. To keep fall arrest forces below OSHA and ANSI requirements, rip-stitch technology is commonly used in lanyards.
Most harnesses provide a sliding back D-ring for the most extensive fall protection. The D-ring should be smooth and adequately sized to allow simple hooking of lanyards. Some harnesses offer an additional chest D-ring and side D-rings for extra positioning and anchoring options. Webbing should meet ANSI standard of 5,000 pounds tensile strength. It should also be weather resistant and have a protective finish to avoid damage from dust, dirt, and grime. Padding should be adequate enough to assure a comfortable fit.
Correct sizing is crucial to safety. Chest straps should be positioned in the mid-chest area and D-rings should be positioned in the middle of the back between the shoulder blades. Other popular features are easy-to-adjust straps and belt loops to accommodate a tool belt. Let us help you with safety harness selection that will best fit your needs.
